Joyce Marie Killpack obituary

Nalder Funeral Home

Joyce Marie Jolley Killpack, of Firth passed away January 8, 2022 due to complications associated with COVID-19.

Joyce was born December 2, 1931 to Lila Callister and Dwayne Jolley of Firth, Idaho. Joyce was the first child of ten children. She graduated from Firth High School May of 1948 at the age of 16, skipping 2 grades.

On the 20 th of July Joyce married Harold Wayne Killpack in the Idaho Falls Temple for time and eternity. After their marriage the couple lived for a short time in Idaho Falls but then moved to Kimball where they made a permanent home. The couple are parents to 3 children, Peggy Whitman, Elaine Gilchrist and Michael Killpack.

Despite their growing family Joyce and Wayne decided that she should return to school in order to become a nurse. Joyce attended the LPN program at Blackfoot Hospital, upon receiving her license she worked for the Blackfoot Hospital and eventually took a job as a nurse working for the Blackfoot Medical Clinic, retiring at age 59.

During her life Joyce had a love for flowers and often planted beautiful begonias, many of which could be enjoyed during the summer months. After long summer days at the clinic she would come home and tend to her flowers, enjoying the work. Besides flowers, she also enjoyed time spent painting. She has left behind several landscape portraits for her family to remember her by. As much as she loved painting landscapes Joyce also spent many of her summers camping at Mill Creek with her family, a long-time tradition. She loved to spend time around the camp fire, enjoying the beauty of the mountains, riding motorbikes and talking about the Jolley family history.

Throughout her life Joyce gained a love of music. As a young child she taught herself how to play the piano, she only took a few lessons. As she grew older she practiced on her own until she could play the piano and organ well enough to accompany others.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Joyce served in many different callings, but perhaps the most enjoyable to her were those dealing with music. She was raised in a good home that taught her about the Savior and the need to follow Him. Her love and testimony of Jesus Christ, supported and sustained her through many challenges she faced in her life.

Joyce was proceeded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, granddaughter Emily Gilchrist, great granddaughter Kierra Grotegut and daughter Peggy Whitman.

Joyce is survived by her husband, 2 of her children, 10 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 1 great, great, grandchild.
