Cougars  advance in district boy’s basketball

FIRTH – The Firth boy’s basketball team beat West Jefferson again last night, February 15, in their third meeting this season to advance to the second round of the 2A Nuclear District playoffs.

The Firth boy’s basketball team entered last night’s game against West Jefferson, understanding the Panthers have an explosive offense and a relatively quick adaptable defense to any line of offensive attack.  But none of that could overcome the Cougar’s inside offensive play and accurate 3-point shooting game.   The Cougars played one of their best games offensively and defensively, beating the Panthers 58 to 39.

The Cougars now play the Ririe Bulldogs in Ririe tonight at 7 p.m.

The Cougars have struggled against the Bulldogs in their last two meetings this season.  They lost 55 to 49 in OT in their first game while at home.   The second game was a disaster.  The Cougars dropped that game 61 to 26 in Ririe.  However, the Cougars have played solidly since then, beating conference undefeated North Fremont at home and West Jefferson at their home and last night in Firth.

“Our players are coachable and playing competitive on both sides of the ball,†Firth Cougar Coach Scott Adams said.   â€œWhether we win or lose, that is all I can ask of them.  This is Cougar basketball.†

We wish Coach Adams and the Cougar basketball team Good Luck in tonight’s game.
