Lady Russets blow past Twin Falls in State playoff game

BOISE:  Top seed Shelley Russets ladies (20-3) aired it out against the Twin Falls Bruins (12-12) Thursday night in the State Championship playoff game.

Hallie Behunin sank a 3-pointer to begin a series of 3-pointers from the bench, making it 24-3 at the end of the 1st quarter.   The Russets dug deep from the bench to keep their domination over the Bruins with a halftime score of 38-11. The Russets played an almost flawless first half except for 14 fouls, of which Brinley Cannon had three fouls.

But the first half was all Shelley. The Russets shot 14 of 31 or 45 percent while holding the Bruins to just 4 of 21 or 19 percent.

At the end of the 3rd quarter, Shelley continued a comfortable lead of 52 to 19.   During the 4th quarter, Coach Carlson let many players from the bench see action in a State playoff game. Shelley led at one point, 59 to 21, with the Bruins scoring the last 14 points. In the end, Shelley beat Twin Falls 59 to 35.   Hallie Behunin was the lead scorer with 11.

The Russets will play tomorrow night at the Nampa Ford Center against the Bishop Kelly Knights in the semi-final state 4A playoff.
