Shelley High School closing Thursday due to COVID-19: Limiting number of students the following week
SHELLEY — At least four individuals at Shelley High School have tested positive for COVID-19, prompting the school to close Thursday to prepare for limiting the number of students onsite.
Shelley High School is moving to “Stage Yellow” of Shelley Joint School District 60’s Back to School plan for dealing with COVID-19. The plan dictates that if the high school has more than three active COVID-19 cases, it must begin limiting the number of students at the school.
Students with last names beginning with the letters A through I will attend school Monday. Students with last names beginning with J through Z will attend Tuesday.
“Tomorrow, which is Thursday, no kids will attend at the high school. It’s a day for teachers to prepare for online learning and to implement the yellow protocol,” Superintendent Chad Williams told Community Pioneer.
With Thanksgiving break starting Wednesday Nov. 25, Williams hopes the school will only stay in stage yellow for a couple of days.
“Right now we believe it’s only going to go for two days,” Williams said. “Assuming we don’t have four active cases, right now, we’re anticipating we’ll be Green by Nov. 30. That’s the Monday after Thanksgiving.”
According to a post on the Shelley Child Nutrition Facebook page, two days worth of frozen meals will be available for high school students. One meal for Thursday and a second meal for whichever day the student does not attend.
To order the meals, call Laura at 208-357-7400 ext 927 by 8 a.m. Thursday. Meal pick-up will be at the Shelley High School kitchen backdoor located on the east side of the building near the seminary building.
