Lionel Leroy Madsen obituary
Lionel Leroy Madsen passed quietly Sunday morning April 25, 2021 at his farm home in Shelley at the age of 87.
Leroy was born September 22, 1933 to Mabel Basset and L.P. Madsen in Shelley, Idaho. He was the oldest of their three sons. Roy was raised on his family farm in Shelley where he learned to love farming and milking cows.
He met his wife Betha Mae McInelly and they were married in 1953 in Firth. They raised their three boys, Randy, Leon, and Brent farming on the Shelley project in Woodville. He lost his wife Bertha in 1964.
He continued to work on the project where he met and married Carol Ann Hansen and she brought her son, Rex to their family. They moved from Woodville and bought a farm in Goshen. They had two more sons, Matthew and Mark. He carried on farming and milking cows. His second wife, Carol, died of cancer and he soon married her best friend Katie Huff.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to take a few days away from the farm to go fishing everywhere he could in the valley. He also loved hunting and trapping and taught many people the secret skills of these trades.
He was a constant tease to everyone! Especially to his many grandchildren. He will be missed.
We thank Hands of Hope Hospice for taking care of Roy these last two years.
Leroy is survived by his four sons, Randy (Kristy) Madsen of Firth, Leon (Andie) Madsen of Twin Falls, Matthew (Lisa) Madsen of St. Louis, Missouri, and Mark (Natalie) Madsen of Shelley, 28 grandchildren and 50 + great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his three wives, his brothers, two sons, Brent and Rex and a daughter in law, Darla.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 30, 2021 at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 West Oak Street in Shelley.
