Several Shelley Russet Track Members Head to State
IDAHO FALLS – Shelley Russet Madison Lempka takes 1st in the High Jump while her other track team members qualify for State at the District 6 4A Championship.
Madison Lempka has led this season in High Jump at every event, and she finished districts still in the lead, taking 1st with a jump of 5’6â€. With this win, she qualifies for State.
Ella Carlson took third place with a personal best jump of 4’8†and headed to State.
The 2021 District 6 4A Championship was held last week, May 13 and 14, at Thunder Ridge High School in Idaho Falls. The winners in various categories can advance to State. The State Championship is Friday, May 21, and Saturday, May 22, at Eagle High School in Eagle, Idaho, with some events being held at Rocky Mountain High School in Meridian.
In the individual events, the top 3 finishers make it to State.
Jace Thatcher, a senior at Shelley High School, is headed to State for the third time in the 200- and 400-meter races. Thatcher took third in the 200 with a personal best time of 22.91 and took second in the 400 with 51.85 seconds.
Canyon Allphin, a sophomore, is headed to State for the first time in his track career. Allphin placed third in the 400-meter race, with a personal best time of 53.44 seconds.
Max McIsaac, a senior, is also going to State this weekend. As a first-time high jump athlete, he took an impressive third place with a personal best of 5’8â€. McIsaac’s excitement was contagious. When it was announced, he had taken third; the crowd erupted in cheers.
Zaine Dixon, a senior, who has his form down, and his confidence high, took an impressive second place in the long jump with a distance of 19’8.25â€. Dixon has been working hard for the last four years, and he did it.
First-place teams automatically qualify for State in the relays, and then there is an “at large†qualifier team, which means the next best time from District 1-6 also qualifies for State.
The boys 4×100 and 4×200 team received word Sunday evening they qualify for State based on their time.Â
Ryker Clinger, Treyce Jensen, Zaine Dixon, and Brayden Johnson took second place in the 4×100 with a time of 44.30. They practiced hard this week and are looking forward to the opportunity to race just one more time as a team.
Jace Thatcher, Clinger, Jensen, and Johnson also took second in the 4×200 with their season-best time of 1:31.12. They were just .04 shy of first place by the Skyline Grizzly team. These boys are going to State. They also broke the school record for this event set in 2007.
“This was a goal of ours this season, and we did it. We are headed to State, and we broke a record. These guys aren’t only my teammates; they are my brothers,†Brayden Johnson said.
Tessa Smith, a senior, qualified in the 100-meter race by taking third, with a personal best time of 13.08. Smith also placed second at Shot Put with a personal best distance of 35’04â€.
Reese Callahan, a junior, is headed back to State. She has been looking forward to this event all year.  Callahan qualified in all three of her events. Callahan placed second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.53. She also placed second in the 300-meter hurdles, with a personal best time of 49.71 seconds. Finally, she placed second in the long jump with a distance of 15’4â€.
Clara Benson is headed to State in the triple jump with a distance of 32’1.5â€. Benson, a senior, is hoping to go out with a bang.
The twelve qualifying athletes leave Thursday morning from Shelley High School A send-off event is scheduled for them at 10 a.m.
