Second annual Plein Air Out art exhibition starts this month
Editor’s Note: The following is a news release from the Bingham Arts Council.
The Bingham Arts Plein Air Paint Out is a group art festival, competition, and exhibition open to professionals and amateurs of all skill levels. Participating artists register their canvases, then have three days to complete and enter their paintings. Entries will be featured in a free public exhibition at the Candy Jar Gallery from June 14 to Aug. 6, and many of these unique images of Bingham County may be available for purchase.
En plein air is a French expression meaning “in the open airâ€, describing the not-so-simple act of painting outdoors while handling shifting light, fluctuating temperatures, wind, and other variables. Enjoying the beautiful local landscape in the company of like-minded artists can make the challenge even more interesting.
Cash prizes of $250, $150, and $100, sponsored by DL Evans Bank, will be awarded to the top three placing artists. Two Honorable Mention recipients will receive a $50 gift coupon provided by Blick Art Materials. Additional sponsorship is graciously provided by the Shelley Supporters of the Arts, the Candy Jar Art Gallery, Ace Hardware, and Gary’s Service.
This year’s group Paint Out gathering will be held at Wadsworth Island on Friday, June 11, from 10 AM to 4 PM. Artists may choose from several rustic or river scenic sites, or may paint on their own at any location in Bingham County and still be eligible for prizes.
Entrants are invited to check in at the Candy Jar Gallery on Wednesday, June 9, from 5-7 PM or Thursday or Friday, June 11th or 12th from 10-12 AM. Two entries are permitted for a $25 registration fee.
