Shelley wrestler Kolton Stacey signs with the University of Providence
SHELLEY – Kolton Stacey signed with the University of Providence in Montana to wrestle after returning from a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Kolton Stacey, who recently won his third State Championship in wrestling for the Shelley Russets, has signed to become a wrestling team member with the University of Providence in Great Falls, Montana. He has received a deferment while serving a two-year mission for the Church.
“As his coach, one thing I loved about Kolton was how he was about work. He welcomed everyone into the room,†Heath Stacey, Kolton’s father, said. “Kolton says he is the most average person but has done the most with that average body.â€
During Kolton’s senior year he wrestled in the 120-pound weight calls and stood out tall as a leader and athlete at Shelley.
“I am excited. He didn’t know if he wanted to wrestle in college and then decided he wanted to,” Kolton’s mother, Mandi Stacey said. “He had lots of offers but didn’t know if he would fit in, which was important. And then we found somebody who said I want missionaries because of the kind of men they are when they come back. And, he went for it.â€
Kolton started his mission last week and is doing home missionary training. He leaves June 29 to the LDS Virginia Richmond Mission.
“I am excited to go teach people what I believe. I know this will be a good experience for me,” Kolton said.
