New Mexican market and restaurant now open in Shelley
SHELLEY — Serving up authentic Mexican food and groceries, El Chuy Market is now open in Shelley.
Rogelio and Clemencia Patiño are originally from Mexico and are now living in Idaho Falls. The couple and their family opened El Chuy Market on State St. in Shelley in December. They provide Mexican products and also have a Mexican Restaurant inside the store.
“This is a family market. We’re all just family here,” Juvia Patiño, Rogelio and Clemencia’s daughter, told Community Pioneer.
The market side of the store offers imported Mexican snacks, beverages and a variety of other commodities. They also have fresh produce, meat and fruit.
“We like to order different kinds of fruits that aren’t usually from here. Like the dragon fruit,” Juvia said.
The menu on the restaurant side of the market includes Menudo, Pozole, Chilaquiles, Tacos, Tortas and Quesadillas.
Fans of Mexican food will especially enjoy El Chuy Market’s carne asada and al pastor tacos.
“Once it picks up, we’ll have Mole and different kinds of food,” Juvia said.
El Chuy Market’s winter hours are Tuesday through Sunday. On weekdays they are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Juvia said she’s enjoyed getting to know the people in Shelley since they opened a little over three weeks ago.
“It’s kind of a small town so you just start recognizing people,” Juvia said. “We like the environment and we like the people, everyone’s really nice here.”
