Shelley DARE program receives donation from local credit union
SHELLEY — A local credit union visited Shelley today to help Shelley’s DARE program purchase more educational and promotional materials.
Lookout Credit Union awarded Shelley’s DARE program with a $750 donation, Tuesday, April 13, at Stuart Elementary School. The donation will go to purchasing supplies for kids in the DARE program. It will also help the Shelley Police Department host its first DARE graduation ceremony.
“With our new brand, Lookout Credit Union, our commitment to education remains. However, police officers, first responders, whatnot, they’re one of our segments now. This was a really fun opportunity to touch base on both of our segments and help the community out.” said Landry Harper, Lookout Credit Union branch manager for the Sunnyside Rd. branch in Idaho Falls.”
Harper said they chose to award Shelley’s DARE program with a donation because of his friendship with Shelley Police Department School Resource Officer Weston Hayman and because Shelley is a growing area where Lookout Credit Union would like to be more involved.
“It’s definitely a great way for us to really get involved in the community,” he said.
Hayman said they are going to use the money to purchase swag for DARE students as well as items for the upcoming DARE graduation on April 28.
“This is the first year we took over the DARE program. Previously the county ran it. As the SRO program evolved, Chief Mohler and the County both said it was time to turn it over for Shelley to run in our own district. So now we’re doing that. So, I would like to invite everyone out to come and join us on the 28. Show support for the DARE program as we run our first Shelley-ran DARE graduation,” Hayman said.
