Shelley track shows its speed at the High-Country Conference
REXBURG: Shelley traveled to Madison High School for their third track meet of the season. It proved to be a battle with some very talented 5A athletes from Rigby and Madison and the speed that 4A Skyline brings week after week.
Jace Thatcher, a senior at Shelley High School, showed his speed and confidence in the 400 Meter race. He came in 1st with a personal best time of 51.76. It didn’t stop there for Jace when he came in 3rd in the 200 Meter race with a time of 23.09.
Brayden Johnson has the speed to stick with the big boys. In the 100 Meter race, he came in 5th place with a time of 11.63.
In the 200 Meter race, Johnson and teammate Treyce Jensen came head-to-head in the 200 Meter race. Johnson took 5th place with a personal best time of 23.53. Jensen took 6th, with a personal best time of 23.64. Both athletes have pushed each other week after week. They look forward to competing against each other again this season.
Shelley boys had a great race against rival Skyline in the 4 x 100 relay. Treyce Jensen, Ryker Clinger, Zaine Dixon, and Brayden Johnson came up just .03 seconds short to land 2nd place with a time of 44.49. Skyline took 1st place with a time of 44.46.
Reese Callahan, the only Shelley athlete that competes in the Hurdle events, shows week after week that hard work pays off. In the 100 meter Hurdles, Callahan came in 4th, with a time of 16.80. In the 300 meter, she came in 5th, with a time of 51.48.
Callahan, a junior, competed at the State Championships her Freshman year. Last year, Covid denied her the opportunity to race with best, but Callahan is working toward making it to the state championship again this year.
Tessa Smith competed against a pool of talented Shot Put athletes and came in 4th with a distance of 30’8. In the long jump, Lanie Williams came in 4th, a personal best, with a distance of 15’7.
Maddie Lempka, a senior, jumped 5’7â€, a personal best in the high jump event. Lempka has been working hard the last 4 years, putting all her time and effort into the high jump, and it has paid off. Lempka has made it to the state championship every year and is currently trying to decide if she wants to go to Utah State University or BYU to compete at the college level.
Shelley has significant talent this year. They have practiced hard week after week, and it shows. Way to go, Russets!
