Firth dominates Ririe on the path to District Championship
The Cougars played the Bulldogs Tuesday night, February 22, in Ririe. Â Even with a home-court advantage, Ririe fell to Firth.
The Cougars and Bulldogs started the game with Ririe leading 6 to 0 through most of the first quarter. However, in the second quarter, the Cougars found themselves and went to town outscoring Ririe and leading at the half 22 to 18.
During the third quarter, Firth widened the score by 8 points. However, a questionable technical call against Firth changed the momentum in favor of Ririe, who tied the game early in the fourth. Both teams continued to score back and forth, leaving the game tied with 4:39 left in the game.
But the Cougars weren’t finished yet. They fought back and went ahead by proficiently shooting with an inside offense.
The town of Firth showed up in mass to support the Cougars. As the buzzer rang, Cougar fans rushed the floor to congratulate their team, who had kept their district and state hopes alive.
The Cougars now face off against the North Fremont Huskies in the 2A Nuclear Conference championship. This game is Thursday night at South Fremont High School, in St. Anthony, with tip-off at 7 p.m.Â
