Shelley & Firth Together asking for nominees

SHELLEY — The third annual Shelley & Firth Together service project is looking for families in need this holiday season.

Monica Nelson created the Shelley & Firth Together group three years ago as a way to engage friends and family in helping others. The group has gathered donations to help pay utility bills and lunch tickets for students. In 2019, the Firth and Shelley high schools got involved by collecting diaper donations.

“It’s just trying to help out people in need,” Nelson told Community Pioneer.

This year, because of social distancing, instead of the usual community activities to gather donations, Nelson has decided to take nominations for individuals and families in need.

Those who know of anyone needing some extra help or support this year can nominate them by texting Nelson at 208-569-1074 or sending her an email at [email protected].

The names and identifying information about the nominees will be kept confidential. Nelson will post the nominee’s needs and if they are a family or individual.

Volunteers can then choose who they want to adopt.

“If they want to contact me to adopt that family, adopt that elderly person or single person, whoever it is, they can adopt them,” Nelson said.

Rules for nominating someone:

  • Do not nominate yourself.
  • Do not nominate someone who is already receiving help from another group or organization.
  • Clearly list the needs of the family or individual you are nominating.
