Shelley Police helping with Random Acts of Kindness
SHELLEY — The Shelley Police Department teamed up with the Idaho State Police to bring a little joy to some local families.
Each year, the Shelley Police participate in Random Acts of Kindness with ISP to help families in need. This year, they were able to deliver food boxes to 11 families in Shelley.
“We team with the Idaho State Police and Broulim’s, and we collect names of people throughout our community that could use some help during the holiday season. And then, we just go around and we deliver food boxes, see how they’re doing, chat. We always try to uplift their spirits during the holidays. It can be a tough time of year for a lot of people in our community, unfortunately,” Shelley Police Sgt. Robert Tincher said.
Tincher explained that Random Acts of Kindness depends a lot on ISP’s resources. This year, ISP received a large donation of hams.
“This year, we were able to give each family a full-size turkey, ham, a couple pies and rolls,” Tincher said. “Each family got all that to help them with a holiday meal.”
Shelley Police gets most of the names of families in need through the officers out on the streets.
“Since we’re out with the public day in and day out, we’re often aware of what’s going on in our community,” Tincher said. “We see the families that are in need.”
Random Acts of Kindness over for the 2020 holiday season, but Tincher hopes to help more families next year. To do this, he’s asking people to email him rtincher@co.bingham.id.us.
“Just email me, then next year when ISP gets a hold of me I’ll be able to submit a list,” he said.
