Here’s what’s happening with the Community Foodbank
After years of service at the North Bingham County Community Foodbank, Beverly and Leon Peeler plan on retiring next year. With the foodbank’s primary sponsor, the Shelley Community United Methodist Church, closing in July 2021, the foodbank’s future has come into question.
“It’s not gonna close,†Ross Foster told Community Pioneer.
Community volunteers have taken up the cause to keep the foodbank going after the church closes. Foster is part of a group of concerned citizens who are working to ensure it stays open.
“We were concerned for the citizens of Shelley, Firth, Basalt area. We created a small committee, putting into motion taking over the foodbank, to make sure the communities will be taken care of,†Foster said.
The Peelers plan to continue to help until a new entity can continue their good work. They and a dozen volunteers have put their hearts into the charity and know the generosity of the community will continue well after they are gone.
Just a comment. A lot of your readers and subscribers are older people whose eye sight is not the best and I would appreciate it if you would print the paper just a little darker so we can read and enjoy it
Thank you for the suggestion. As I begin working on our next issue, I’ll work hard to make sure it’s easier to read.
Do you have a contact name & phone number of who I can call about being on the committee for the Shelley food bank?
