City of Shelley working on upgrading pool

SHELLEY — The city pool is getting some upgrades before opening later this spring.

With money set aside in the city’s budget for some much-needed upgrades and repairs to the Shelley Swimming Pool, city crews are getting to work to finish the projects within the next two weeks.

“We are replacing a section of concrete. We’re going to put up some new fencing. We’ve moved the pool shed around to the front of the building. We’re going to be doing some fencing work, some concrete work and some asphalt work and then we’ll put the bleachers back on a new asphalt pad,” City of Shelley Publics Work Director Justin Johnson said.

Johnson explained that his crews are expanding the poolside area for patrons to sit and gather.

“We’re going to be adding, probably, a 20-foot by 20-foot area. It will just be a bigger area for kids and parents to get around in the area,” Johnson said.

He said the upgrades won’t affect the pool opening at the end of May, depending on the weather.

“I dare say within the next two weeks we’ll be completely done with our project and out of there,” Johnson said.
