Fire has burned nearly 200 acres along Firth river bottoms
FIRTH — Crews are working to contain a fire that is burning along the river bottoms south of Firth.
Early Wednesday afternoon, emergency responders received a call about a fire south of Firth on the lava side in the Rose area. The fire allegedly started as a controlled burn of a canal bank that got out of hand. It has consumed roughly 200 acres.
A Bureau of Land Management spokesperson told Community Pioneer that no structures have been damaged. However, the fire did come within 100 feet of a home before firefighters were able to turn it away.
Firefighting efforts are being led by the Shelley/Firth Fire District and the BLM. Firefighters are working on putting out hotspots, but are having some trouble navigating through the thick trees and brush along the river bottoms.
According to the BLM spokesperson, the fire has stayed on the north side of that section of the river. BLM is also working on getting boats on the river to inspect the various small islands for hot spots.
Community Pioneer will update this story as more information becomes available.
