Spring cleanup begins next week

SHELLEY — Got branches, leaves, grass clippings that need picked up? The City of Shelley’s spring cleanup begins next week.

Starting Monday, April 19, and going through April 23, City of Shelley crews will be going around town to haul away yard debris such as pruned tree branches, leaves, grass clippings and garden refuse.

“If you guys will put them out curbside, we will come around to pick them up and haul them off,” Shelley Public Works Director Justin Johnson said.

Items do not have to be in containers. However, because of Shelley’s frequent winds, Johnson asked that people use common sense when it comes to keeping leaves and grass clippings from being blown away.

If people do want to put their leaves and grass clippings in bags, it doesn’t matter if they use plastic or paper bags. Plastic bags will be thrown away and paper bags will be burned.

Johnson said it normally takes his crews around three to four weeks to complete spring cleanup.

“If we don’t hit your house within that first week, we will be making the rounds to get everything done,” Johnson said.
