Shelley athletes bring home medals and batons from Invitational
POCATELLO: Reese Callahan took first place in the 100-meter hurdles while Shelley boys took first place in the 4 x 200 relay team race. Other athletes brought home 2nd and 3rd place metals at Highland Golden Baton Relay and Invitational, held at Highland High School on April 15.
Faster than you could say the name of this Invitational, Reese Callahan ran the 100-meter hurdles, taking first with a time of 16.84 seconds. Callahan also had an impressive run at the 300-meter hurdles taking 4th at 53 seconds flat. In the long jump, she jumped 15’ 1.5â€, a personal best, and placing 5th in the competition.
For the second week in a row, Brayden Jonson, Jace Thatcher, Treyce Jensen, and Ryker Clinger took first place in the 4 x 200 relay team race, with an impressive time of 1:32.68. They each received a gold baton award for coming in first.
Brayden Johnson came in strong in all four of his events. Johnson took third in the 100-meter race, with a time of 11.37 seconds.
Jace Thatcher also had a phenomenal day taking 2nd in the 400-meter race against tough competition. His time was 52.06 seconds.
In the men’s 200-meter race, four of the Shelley Russets placed in the top eight. Jace Thatcher took third with a time of 23.53. Johnson took fourth, with a time of 23.76. Treyce Jensen took seventh place with a time of 23.99, and Ryker Clinger took eighth place with a time of 24.06.
Ryker Clinger, Treyce Jensen, Zaine Dixon, and Brayden Johnson also came out strong in the 4×100. They took second with a time of 44.94.
Savannah Ivins took sixth in the 800-meter race, with a personal best time of 2:36.14.
Kaden Almond placed eighth in the 300-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 49.78.
Tessa Smith took fourth in Shot Put with a distance of 32.00.50.
Clara Benson took seventh in Triple Jump with a personal best distance of 30.02.25.
These athletes have worked hard week after week, pushing Shelley towards a good showing at Districts and State. Friday, April 23, Shelley High School hosts the Shelley Invitational. The event begins at 12 pm.
