The Shelley Police Log: Dec. 3 – Dec. 10

The Shelley Police Department handles dozens of emergency calls each week, deploying Police, fire, and medical services.   Community Pioneer omits individual’s names and specific addresses.  The following are most of the incidents reported and responded to by the Shelley Police Department between December 3, through the morning of December 10.

Dec 3

2.36 p.m.         Parking Complaint – A person at a business on S. State reported two vehicles in their parking lot, which they did not recognize.

9:06 p.m.         Traffic Complaint – An individual on S. State reported a Gray Mazda with possibly three drunk occupants was heading south on the Yellowstone Highway. 

Dec 4

3:21 a.m.         Welfare Check – A person reported a woman, locked out of her W. Maple apartment, was receiving threatening texts from a guy with whom she had a violent past. 

12:31 p.m.       Civil Complaint – An individual called saying two male friends pushed and threatened her earlier in an apartment on W. Maple.  She left and is now in an open field next to the complex, waiting to speak to an officer.     

9:38 p.m.         Traffic Stop leads to arrest.

Dec 5

3:41 a.m.         Unwanted Subject – An individual on W. Maple attempted to get his items from an apartment. The caller indicates he is not to be there. They were placing his items outside the apartment. 

4.23 a.m.         Agency Assist – IFPD was dealing with a male subject who had called them.   He said he had dropped off a woman at her residence on S. Milton.  However, IFPD could hear her in the background.  The female appeared to be highly intoxicated and said the male subject had beat her up.  Police made no arrests.   

Dec 6

12:03 a.m.       An officer discovered an unlocked door on the west side of Shelley High School. 

12:43 a.m.       An officer arrested a man at the intersection of State S. and E. Oak for possession of a controlled substance. 

1:08 p.m.         Welfare Check – A person called saying her daughter was with her ex-husband and living in a flooded camper.   She wanted to know if she was staying in the camper or the adjacent home.  

9:45 p.m.         Agency Assist – A different law enforcement agency arrested an individual. While using the jail phone, he told his mother and girlfriend to get the stuff out of his apartment on W. Maple, which was overheard by them.  The agency wants an officer to go to the apartment and see if they can smell anything. 

Dec 7

3:23 a.m.         Fire Arms Violation – A caller on South Park reported hearing four gunshots south of their home.   Police later discovered it was a drive-by shooting of an occupied dwelling. 

4:16 p.m.         A person on W. Fir called the Police claiming an individual put his arm around their child’s neck and slammed them into some rocks.

Dec 8

12:54 p.m.       Traffic Complaint – A person on S. State reported children blocking the alleyway and their car was spraying gravel as they drove off. “They are out of control.” The children were in a brown Toyota, the caller said.  The caller would like them spoken to as they have blocked the alley before and then sprayed gravel when driving off.     

3:02 p.m.         An individual who lives outside the county called Police to report his identity was stolen.  He received a debit card in the mail he had not requested.  Chase Bank advised him to file a police report.     

4:11 p.m.         A person reported an accident on S. Lincoln.  It is unknown if there were injuries. 

4:22 p.m.         A person reported a blue sedan was swerving all over the road from Idaho Falls to Shelley.   They were not following it at the time of their call.   

Dec 10

2:38 a.m.         Structural Fire – A individual reported he believes the house across the Street on Meadowlark Drive is on fire.  The caller said he could see a bright orange light flickering in the dwelling.    But he isn’t sure if it is just a light or a fire. 

9:33 a.m.         Traffic Complaint – A caller from the Gables of Shelley said vehicles were speeding in and out of their street and cul-de-sac.
