Shelley PD say goodbye to a long-time officer

SHELLEY – Shelley Police Department lost a long-time officer to retirement today.  Officer Michael Curnutt served as an officer for the city for 23 years.

Officer Michael Curnutt joined the Shelley Police Department in 1993 as a reserve officer.  He joined as a full-time force in 1998, where he remained until today.  At the going-away party held in his honor Friday,  April 30, at city hall, family and friends, along with Mayor Stacey Pascoe, councilmembers Earl Beattie and Adam French, and city employees, gathered to wish him well.

Various officers from Idaho State, Bingham County, and Shelley showed up to send off their friend and colleague.  Older officers from Shelley were also present, welcoming him back to civilian life.

“He will be missed.  He has affected and changed many officer’s life on the force,†Chief Rod Moehler said.

Curnett was on the force when the Chief came to town.

“I appreciate the support the citizens have given me over the years,†Curnutt said.  “As officers here, we cannot do it without citizens backing us up.  You see what happens in larger communities when that doesn’t take place.  It turns into anarchy.â€Â

Curnutt said he plans to spend his upcoming summer on his fishing boat.
