Shelley High School Class Reunions are set to coincide around Spud Day

SHELLEY – Community Pioneer has a list of Shelley High School reunions set around the upcoming Spud Day. 

The average person who graduates from high school and is not a complete hermit from social media understands that they will receive at least one request to attend a high school reunion once every decade.  For most schools, reunions occur during the summer months of the designated year.  But, not in Shelley.   

Like a devout Muslim, who makes a pilgrimage at least once in their life to Mecca, Shelley High School alumni trek to their homeland every five to ten years to pay homage to the great Russet potato at Spud Day.  Spud Day will be held on Saturday, September 18. 

This year the following classes are having a reunion: 1957, 1960, 1970, 1971, 1975, 1980, 1981, 1986 and 1991. 

Community Pioneer has a special treat for those returning to Shelley for a reunion.  A street dance sponsored by Community Pioneernwill be held Friday, September 17, at the Shelley High School parking lot from 9:00 to 10:30 p.m.  The public is also invited, but the dance is being put on particularly for Shelley alumni.

The band Vision from Utah will perform.  This band includes Shelley’s own Dan Backlund, John Hanson, and Ken Shumway from the Class of 81, with special guest Brett Hart.

Class of 1957

When: Friday, September 17, 2021, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Where: Shelley-Firth Rural Fire District Station, 585 West Fir Street, Shelley, Idaho

Happening: Catered meal $40.00 per couple (causal dress)
