Lance “Butch” Mocabee obituary
Lance “Butch†Mocabee, 81, was called home by his Heavenly Father early Thursday, October 14, 2021 after a brief, albeit a brave and intense fight with cancer.
He was born March 16, 1940 to Finley and Ruby (née Davis) Mocabee, in Lodge Grass, Montana.
Lance was highly educated and earned multiple degrees in a variety of disciplines including accounting, computer sciences, and mathematics, including a Master’s degree in Education specializing in secondary school administration from the University of Montana.
He was a school teacher, principal, and superintendent. He was also was very talented in many things including archery, gardening, home renovation, and writing. Lance was always happy to share his experience and knowledge whenever asked. He loved reading, watching sports, and was extremely proud of his family.
Lance was married to Mary Alice Neidt on September 9, 1961 and was married until Mary’s untimely passing, also due to cancer. Lance then married Leah Bush Livingston on July 21, 1990.
He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Lance served in many callings including Bishop, Sunday School teacher, and Ward Clerk. He was very passionate about family history and thoroughly enjoyed serving weekly in the Idaho Falls Temple until his health recently declined.
Lance will be remembered by all those who knew him for his dry sense of humor, the mischievous twinkle in his eye, and his contagious laugh. Although short in stature, his tall personality touched many lives. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Lance was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Beverly, Cecil, Frances and Janet, and his first wife Mary. He leaves behind his siblings Jane Davisson (Homer, Alaska), Martha (Marty) Burrell (Plains, Montana), and Richard (Rick) Mocabee (Spokane, Washington), as well as his wife of 31 years Leah Livingston Mocabee, his children, Shelli Livingston in Midvale, Utah, Heather (Mocabee) Riggs (Brian) in Miles City, Montana, Brenda (Mocabee) Nordtome (Scott) in Missoula, Montana, Toni (Mocabee) Barclay (James) in Riverside, California, Jay Livingston (Asia) in Sandy, Utah, Jared Livingston (Tracey) in Winter Springs, Florida, Jody Livingston (Danielle) in Chandler, Arizona, and Monica (Mocabee) Sparks (Rob) in Idaho Falls, Idaho, 19 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude for the outstanding care Lance received from all the healthcare professionals involved in his care. Additionally, they’d wish to thank their friend Kara Yancey, RN, and Aspen Home Health & Hospice for their sincere compassion and dedication.
Lance will be interred in Ronan Cemetery, in Ronan, Montana during a private service at a later time.
