Vehicle accident claims the life of a long-time Shelley resident
SHELLEY:Â Early Tuesday morning, long-time Shelley resident Evelyn Harris succumbed to her injuries from a vehicle accident on Saturday, September 24. She was at East Idaho Regional Medical Center when she passed.
On Saturday, September 24, at approximately 12:41 PM, a vehicle driven by 75-year-old Pearl Staggie from Shelley was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by 29-year-old Michelle Peterson of Rigby. 87-year-old Evelyn Harris, also from Shelley, was a passenger in Staggie’s vehicle at the time of the accident.
According to the Bingham County accident report, Staggie was traveling northbound on US Highway 91 and had just slowed down to turn right onto 1100 North Foundry Rd when her vehicle was struck from behind by Peterson’s vehicle. The impact caused the airbags to deploy within both vehicles. Staggie and Harris were injured in the accident and were transported by ground ambulance to EIRMC.
Staggie’s present condition is unknown. Peterson reportedly received no injuries during the accident. All of the occupants were wearing seatbelts.
The accident was attended to by the Bingham County Sheriff’s Department, the Shelley Quick Response, and the Idaho Falls Paramedics. Bingham County Sheriff’s Department is continuing its investigation of the accident.
