Firth blanks North Fremont in the football quarter-final
POCATELLO: The Firth Cougars held the Huskies to 0 as they advanced to the 2A Semi-Finals in football Friday night at Holt Arena.
In the game’s opening series, Firth marched down the field, but Gage Vasquez threw an interception on a miscommunicated route handing the ball over to North Fremont. The Huskies burned time off the clock as they marched down to Firth’s 3rd-yard line, only to be denied a fourth and goal score by Firth’s defense.
On the Ensuing Dr., Vasquez completed a 10-yard pass to Alex Vasquez and a 28-yard pass to Burton Park to end the First Quarter. In the second quarter, Vasquez, Avoiding several tacklers in the backfield, gets a pass off to Alex Vasquez for a touchdown. The PAT was blocked.
The Huskies turned the ball over on their 44-yard line by failing to convert a fourth down play. Firth passed it down to their 28-yard-line, but time ran out, leaving the score 6 to 0 Firth.
North Fremont went three and out and punted it to the 21-yard line, where Vasquez called a fair catch. On a second and 22, Vasquez hit Burton Park, who evaded and ran it in for a 69-yard touchdown. Firth ran for two points and got it.
Firth’s Bryce Jacobson intercepted the ball on the second play of the Huskies’ possession. On the ensuing play, Gage Vasquez ran 37 yards down the sideline for a Firth touchdown.
North Fremont breathed some life into their game with a 38-yard run by Angel Romero to the 17-yard line. But, three plays later, Jedediah Hill threw an interception to Burton Park at the 2-yard line.
On the next play, Gage Vasquez hits Burton Park on the 2-yard line, who then ran 98 yards for a touchdown. Vasquez’s PAT failed.
The Cougars stopped the Huskies on three and out. At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Firth passed and ran the ball down to the 4-yard line, where Vasquez ran it in for a touchdown. Firth went for a two-point conversion, but the hike was low, and the play failed.
North Fremont moved the ball down to the 20-yard line, but the Cougars were too much for the Huskies by beating them 33 to 0.
The big player in the game was Burton Park, who had eight catches for 281 yards.
