Bingham County Sheriff’s Office Log: Feb. 24 – March 9

This log is only a partial report of all incidences reported to the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office. It contains only those incidences that occur in northern Bingham County. In this area, the Sheriff’s Department handles dozens of emergency calls each week, deploying police, fire, and medical services. Names and specific addresses have been omitted. These statements below materially represent the information in each report with only grammatical changes for flow and clarity. The following is a list of most of the incidents reported and responded to by Bingham County Deputies between Feb. 24 through Mar. 9. 

Feb. 24

2:15 a.m.         Agency Assistance – Bonneville County’s Sheriff’s Office requested Bingham County contact the owner of a business broken into south of Idaho Falls. 

2:46 a.m.         A man in Firth was taken into custody for DUI.  No further details were given. 

10:48 a.m.       Accident – A caller reported a snowmobile accident occurred, possibly in Bingham County, in the Bone area.  The accident occurred east of Bone on the Gray’s Lake Outlet Trail.  The accident victim was conscious and breathing.  He possibly had a broken leg above the ankle.  Air Idaho was being dispatched. 

11:57 a.m.       Disturbing the Peace – A person in the Basalt townsite reported an ongoing issue with the neighbor’s barking dog.   The dog is outside in a kennel.  The caller claimed this issue has been going on for more than a year. 

2:15 p.m.         Request Assistance – An individual in the Woodville area said their daughter’s ex-husband was making threats against her on Facebook and by text.  The man lives in Oregon, but the last post six hours ago was made from the Shelley area. 

6:20 p.m.         Traffic  Complaint – A caller reported an impaired driver was traveling southbound on the New Sweden Highway in a silver 1988 GMC Jimmy.  The caller lost track of the vehicle at 1500 North.  

Feb. 25

8:15 a.m.         Bus Violation – A bus driver reported that a dark blue pickup (license plate No. given) traveling along the New Sweden Highway, north of Shelley, ran a bus stop when the stop arm was deployed.   The driver would like to speak with an officer. 

2:37 p.m.         Motorist Assist – ISP asked Bingham County to attend to a 2012 black Ford Fiesta with a flat tire.  It had been traveling southbound on I-15 and was at mile marker 100. 

7:28 p.m.         Traffic Complaint – A caller reported a dark-colored truck with bright white lights on the back was traveling on southbound I-15 at mile marker 101.

11:30 p.m.       Accident – An individual reported they had found the vehicle that hit the power pole outside their residence.  The caller was unable to locate the occupants.

Feb. 26            No incidences were reported on this date.

Feb. 27

 3:08 a.m.        Slide Off – A caller southwest of Shelley reported a vehicle had slid off the road at 1100 N. 800 E.  The car was in the field. 

10:38 a.m.       Animal Complaint Found – A person southwest of Shelley reported they were with an injured dog.  They would like it picked up.  The dog is wearing a shock collar.  The caller is in a gold Dodge with a flatbed. 

11:37 a.m.       Accident – The passenger in a green truck called to report they and the driver were in the vehicle when it slid off the road and hit a power pole at the intersection of 1550 North 800 East. 

7:52 p.m.         Motorist Assist – Two males are stuck on snowmobiles in the Wolverine Area.  They have been stuck for four hours.  They are wet and cold and are getting hypothermia. 

Feb. 28

 10:06 a.m.      Animal Complaint – An individual northeast of Shelley reported an owner of a dog had been known to place his dog in a hole and cover it with dirt in an attempt to stop it from digging.  The dog was to be taken to a shelter but hasn’t yet.  The caller is worried about the white and brown Hound Mix.  They would like a deputy to check on the dog. 

2:41 p.m.         Animal Complaint – A caller was transferred from ISP to dispatch.  While stopped at the southbound rest area of I-15, west of Firth, the caller’s lab was attacked by two Pitbulls on the loose.  She is now at the Alpine Hospital in Chubbuck.  She said it is unknown if the owner of the Pitbulls is still in the rest area. 

6:18 p.m.         Missing Person – A person who went snowmobiling in the Wolverine area had not returned and was reported missing. 

8:06 p.m.         Shots Fired – A caller east of Shelley in the Jameston area reported she heard five gunshots about 10 minutes ago.  She doesn’t want to be contacted but would like a deputy to go through the area. 

March 1

9:13 a.m.         Accident – A white Toyota Rav4 rolled east of Shelley along the Taylor Highway.  There were no injuries, and the vehicle did not block the road.  The airbags in the vehicle did not deploy.  

9:15 a.m.         Animal Complaint Found – A caller at the I-15 southbound rest area reported a black and white cat in the lavas.  She wanted authorities to note it, so if the owner reported it lost, they could find it.   

10:52 a.m.       Accident – An individual reported a vehicle crash last Monday southeast of the Goshen Townsite had damaged a power pole. 

March 2

9:26 a.m.         Civil Standby – An individual southeast of Firth reported her daughter was involved in a domestic fight last night with her boyfriend.  The caller would like assistance retrieving her daughter’s items from his home. 

March 3

 11:47 a.m.      Animal Complaint Lost – A person southwest of Shelley reported a black (unidentifiable dog), which was not neutered or chipped and had no collar, had been missing since Feb. 14th

1:37 p.m.         Traffic Complaint – A caller reported a small, silver Scion (no plates) was traveling approximately 55 mph in the left southbound lane of I-15 at mile marker of 103. 

2:22 p.m.         Animal Complaint – A person riding a bike southeast of Firth reported a dog bit him, which did not break the skin, but it hurt.  The caller said it was a black and white, long-haired dog.  A black lab accompanied it. 

March 4

12:18 p.m.       Indecent Exposure – A person east of Shelley reported a male subject was defecating in his backyard.  He reportedly has done it before. 

3:06 p.m.         Animal Complaint Lost – A caller reported missing a small black female dog with a half tail.  The dog went missing from their residence yesterday afternoon. 

6:20 p.m.         Stalking – A woman south of Firth reported her ex left something in her mailbox over the weekend.  He may have possibly violated an order.  She also said she saw him drive by her residence two nights ago. 

10:22 p.m.       Traffic Complaint – A caller traveling south on I-15 west of Firth reported a driver of a maroon Chevy truck, possibly a 2000 model, was unable to maintain his lane of travel.  

March 5

6:39 p.m.         Traffic Complaint – A caller on US Hwy 91 north of Shelley reported they were following a white SUV (license given) through a construction area when the driver opened their door and knocked over several cones into the northbound lane.  The caller is following in a grey Pontiac Grand Prix. 

7:07 p.m.         Traffic Complaint – A caller southbound on US Hwy 91, south of Firth, reported the driver of a silver truck (license plate No. given) could not maintain his lane of travel. 

9:30 p.m.         Shots Fired – An individual west of Shelley heard three shots fired at their neighbor’s house.  The caller said a female lived in a trailer house on BLM land near the house, which they have been trying to evict. 

10:53 p.m.       Request Assistance – A caller reported she is out of gas at Hard Times in Firth, and there is a grey vehicle that keeps driving by her.  It has driven by three times now.  It was last seen 5 minutes ago.

March 6

1:23 p.m.         Request Assistance – A person east of Shelley reported someone had stolen her identity and opened a bank account in her name.  

6:49 p.m.         A woman on Hanson reported a man is posting threatening things on Facebook.  She would like to speak with a deputy. 

7:56 p.m.         Suspicious Circumstance – A caller in Green Acres east of Shelley reported a truck and car were going around shining their lights on everyone’s property.  They went outside to yell at them.  They left approximately 5 minutes ago.

March 7

3:17 p.m.         Agency Assistance – IFPD said an individual living near Shelley was a suspect in a hit and run that occurred on Feb. 28.  The suspect was driving a white Honda Civic (license plate No. given).  They asked a deputy to get a new phone number from the suspect or have him contact them. 

5:03 p.m.         Civil Complaint – A woman southeast of Shelley said her grandson and his girlfriend were fighting.  She had now left the house.  The caller said her grandson continues to call his girlfriend and harass her.  She also said he is driving her pickup.   However, he has permission to drive it, even though he is not making his payments. 

7:26 p.m.         Traffic Complaint – An individual on Presto Road southeast of Firth reported the driver of a brown single cab Chevy (license plate No. given) ran several stop signs and almost hit him.  The driver is a white male with sunglasses.  The pickup had an American flag sticker on the back.  The caller is willing to sign a citation. 

March 8

8:10 a.m.         Animal Complaint Found – A caller southeast of Firth reported a male, black lab with a red collar and no tags showed up at her residence last night.  She would like a deputy to pick it up. 

9:38 a.m.         Residential Alarm – A burglary alarm went off on a residential home northeast of Shelley.  The alarm was coming from an entry/exit alarm.

12:28 p.m.       Information – A caller from Green Acres east of Shelley requested to speak with a deputy about possible fraud on a job application. 

12:48 p.m.       Lost Property – A caller said they were fishing from Firth to Rose and lost a black truck key with St. Anthony Motors on it. 

1:33 p.m.         Information – Illegal Dumping – An individual west of Shelley reported a girl was living in a trailer house on the property and was advised to leave.  She left and left her belongings there.  The caller wants that area cleaned up.

3:56 p.m.         Information – A caller southeast of Shelley reported some fraudulent charges on her Chase card, which happened within the county.  She wants to talk to a deputy. 

3:59 p.m.         Civil Complaint – An individual northeast of Shelley reported his neighbor is trying to remove some barriers off his property.  The caller said it has not escalated yet but is worried it might. 

7:19 p.m.         Accident – A caller reported her husband hit a deer on US Highway 91 south of Firth.  She said he was not injured. 

March 9

6:11 p.m.         Animal Complaint Lost – A caller from Firth reported their dog was loose.  It is a brown female dog with a collar, Shelley dog tags, and a name tag.
