Bingham County Sheriff’s Log: March 18-30

This log is only a partial report of all incidences reported to the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office. It contains only those incidences that occur in northern Bingham County. In this area, the Sheriff’s Department handles dozens of emergency calls each week, deploying police, fire, and medical services. Names and specific addresses have been omitted. These statements below materially represent the information in each report with only grammatical changes for flow and clarity. The following is a list of most of the incidents reported and responded to by Bingham County Deputies between March 18 through March 30. 

March 18

8:33 a.m.         A caller at a business in Firth reported finding a large number of broken beer bottles in their parking lot.  They swept the parking lot but had not picked the parking lot.

3:50 p.m.         Animal Complaint – An individual at a trailer court near Shelley reported her neighbor’s dogs jumped the fence and attacked her dog. 

6:30 p.m.         Animal Complaint – A caller reported finding a mix-type dog in the mountains.  He is requesting a deputy pick up the dog. 

  March 19

2:54 a.m.         Traffic Complaint – Idaho State Police reported a possibly intoxicated driver of a pearly-white SUV on southbound I-15 near mile marker 110.  

10:43 a.m.       Animal Complaint – A person at Journey’s End Golf Course reported a yellow lab on the loose. 

7:52 p.m.         A caller reported her ex-husband went to her home northeast of Goshen without her authorization.  He called her asking about the keys to his vehicle.   The event occurred earlier in the day, around 3 p.m.   

8:32 p.m.         Traffic Complaint – A caller reported a silver Honda Civic was traveling southbound on I-15 at 35 m.p.h. with a blinker on and one headlight out.  The person did not appear to be distressed.

March 20

4:27 a.m.         Welfare Check – A caller reported a guy was pushing a cart of the west side along US Hwy 91 southwest of Firth in the dark.  He was concerned the gentleman might get hit. 

10:36 a.m.       Accident – A 2-vehicle accident occurred between a Subaru Legacy and a crane truck west of Shelley along 1260 north.  No injuries were reported.  The road was not blocked. 

9:03 p.m.         Accident – The driver of a Mazada left the road and hit a power pole south of Journey’s End, northwest of Shelley. 

10:11 p.m.       Civil Complaint – An individual northeast of Shelley reported he let his neighbor borrow his saddle.  Now, his neighbor is complaining about his dogs. He wants his saddleback.  He has requested a deputy to get it for him. 

10:49 p.m.       A person east of Shelley reported her neighbor was intoxicated and was at their door yelling at her husband. 

March 21

9:15 p.m.         Hazard – The Idaho Transportation Department reported a vehicle was parked partially in the lane of travel on the southbound lane of I-15 at mile marker 105. 

March 22

6:24 p.m.         Burglary Residence – A residence in Firth reported an individual broke into their garage some time within the last two days. 

March 23

5:00 a.m.         A caller reported he popped the tire of his blue Chevy Cruz and ended up swerving into a barrier along the northbound lane of I-15 at mile marker 105. He was not injured, and his vehicle was off the side of the freeway. 

10:58 a.m.       A person reported a male suspect entered their business in Firth and appeared to be under the influence.  He was in the restroom for 20 minutes.  They wanted him out of there. 

1:28 p.m.         Accident – Two vehicles collided on private property at the Goshen Townsite. 

9:27 p.m.         An individual south of Shelley reported his neighbors were screaming vulgar words at him and his wife as their dogs were barking.  

March 24

3:09 p.m.         Request Assistance – A 911 call was received from a cell phone with rustling in the background.  The phone was pinging from the I-15 northbound rest area west of Firth. 

March 25

3:20 p.m.         A person at Firth High School was cited for resisting and obstruction.  

7:00 p.m.         Harassment – A woman south of Firth reported that an individual was parked near her residence when she came home from work at 5:50 p.m. Per the deputy’s instruction, she filled out a statement and would like him to pick it up.

7:03 p.m.         Motorist Assist – A red car was in the median, and a silver car was on the shoulder.  There were two people in the red car. 

10:27 p.m.       Animal Complaint – Found – A caller in Firth reported that an all-black stray dog was hanging around his residence. The dog appeared malnourished.

11:05 p.m.       Request Assistance – An individual near Shelley reported his 80-year-old wife was unable to walk, and they were traveling to the hospital. She had no difficulty breathing and no covid symptoms.

March 26

5:48 p.m.         Agency Assist – Idaho Falls PD requested deputies attempt to make contact with an individual living northeast of Shelley.

7:53 p.m.         Animal Complaint – A caller east of Shelley reported goats in the road.

March 27

12:00 p.m.       Disorderly Conduct – Parents at Firth High School were verbally fighting in the gym.

12:26 p.m.       Animal Complaint – An individual east of Shelley reported being bit by a dog and wanted to file a report.

March 28

1:03 a.m.         Agency Assist – Idaho Falls PD requested a deputy contact a woman southeast of Shelley and ask her to pick up her juvenile daughter who was at a party in Idaho Falls.

1:05 p.m.         Request Assistance – A person east of Firth reported being harassed via call and text.

12:30 p.m.       Civil Standby – A woman southwest of Shelley requested a deputy be present while she attempted to collect belongings from her ex’s residence.

3:25 p.m.         Request Assistance – A QRU (quick response unit) advised deputies that the living conditions in a residence northeast of Shelley were horrible. The staff developed headaches after 15 minutes in the home.

5:24 p.m.         Fraud – An individual reported he paid $350 for a dog, he traveled to Layton, Utah to pick up the animal, and the seller was not there.

March 29

1:02 a.m.         Road Closure – Bonneville County Sheriff’s Department reported a couple was stuck on Taylor Mountain in a white Ford F-350. They were cited for traveling on a closed road.

8:14 a.m.         Burglary – A storage unit owner north of Shelley reported 9 units had been burglarized.

3:00 p.m.         Information – A caller at Firth Middle School reported that she believed she had been followed for the past 15 minutes.

10:29 p.m.       Driving Without Privileges – A caller in Firth reported he was following a possible intoxicated driver. The driver was cited for driving without privileges.

March 30

10:17 a.m.       Information – A individual northeast of Shelley reported they had received a check for $2,934.31 in the mail from someone she did not know. The bank had told her it was not authorized. The caller stated that it was an actual check.

12:38 p.m.       Animal Complaint – A person east of Shelley reported a dark brown “long-horned sheep” was on the loose.

2:54 p.m.         Unlawful Entry – A individual southwest Shelley reported a possible break-in at a home owned by an older woman currently in hospice care. She reported that the doors were unlocked and the lights were on.
