Bingham County Sheriff’s Office Log: March 31 – April 21

This log is only a partial report of all incidences reported to the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office. It contains only those incidences that occur in northern Bingham County. In this area, the Sheriff’s Department handles dozens of emergency calls each week, deploying police, fire, and medical services. Names and specific addresses have been omitted. These statements below materially represent the information in each report with only grammatical changes for flow and clarity. The following is a list of most of the incidents reported and responded to by Bingham County Deputies between March 31 through April 21. 

March 31

10:26 p.m.       Welfare Check – A black truck with a female inside was parked since yesterday morning on a county road west of Shelley

April 1

11:19 a.m.       A caller in the Firth River Bottoms reported they found a female dog had porcupine quills all over her.  They were detaining her.

7:54 p.m.         Animal Complaint – An individual in the Woodville Townsite reported an aggressive black lab with silver lining came after their dog. 

8:13 p.m.         Accident – A two-vehicle accident occurred at 1100 N. US Hwy 91, southwest of Shelley.  No one was injured, and the vehicles did not block the road. 

April 2

8:07 a.m.         Animal Complaint – A caller east of Shelley reported a black and white dog running loose in the area.  The dog was heading west toward the Butte.

5:23 p.m.         Accident – A 3 vehicle accident occurred on US Hwy 91 in front of Howard’s Equipment.  There were injuries, and the highway was blocked.   

April 3

12:07 a.m.       Residential Alarm – A dwelling southwest of Shelley had an alarm go off.  Deputies found no problem at the dwelling. 

7:47 a.m.         Animal Complaint – “A tan and white pony with a bell on its neck.”

8:36 a.m.         A deputy found a truck in the canal.  There was water in the canal.  No “body” appears to be in the vehicle is rolled down.   

4:30 p.m.         Civil Complaint – A homeowner near the Jameston Townsite was out-of-town, and her neighbors had done a controlled burn that caused damage on her back fence line. 

7:16 p.m.         A caller in the Firth River bottom reported a group of about 20 males was target practicing in an unsafe matter.  They claimed their target was backed up against an ATV trail. 

April 5

11:06 p.m.       Animal Complaint – An individual living on the Butte esat of Shelley reported a missing black springer lab mix with a pink collar.  The caller claimed the dog went missing sometime the previous night. 

April 6

8:00 a.m.         Slide off = A caller reported a 4-door vehicle was stuck way off the freeway on the southbound lane of I-15 at mile marker 103.  

10:01 a.m.       Animal Complaint – An individual living northeast of Basalt reported her two dogs got out.  Both are males.  One is a large black dog, and the other is a small black dog.  Both were wearing an American flag collar. 

11:22 a.m.       Animal Complaint – A caller reported three horses and one goat in the road northeast of Shelley. 

April 7

5:26 p.m.         Request Assistance – A caller reported two males were leaning out of a pickup truck window, “firing from the truck.”  The incident occurred on the east side of the northbound lanes of I-15 at mile marker 101, just south of the rest area. 

April 8

3:02 p.m.         Wanted subject north of Firth.  No further details were given. 

3:24 p.m.         Hazard – A caller reported a large tree in the passing lane of northbound I-15 at mile marker 104, west of Firth. 

April 9

3:46 p.m.         Civil Complaint – A property dispute occurred between two property owners in the Basalt townsite.  No further information was provided. 

4:08 p.m.         Traffic Complaint – A caller reported a new model Chevy Sedan, MT Lic. 625- almost ran them off the freeway by driving in the middle of the travel lane on southbound I-15 at Exit 108, west of Shelley. 

10:39 p.m.       A caller in the Basalt townsite reported their neighbors were playing music exceptionally loudly.  They would like a deputy to tell them to turn it down. 

April 10

1:40 a.m.         Hazard – A caller reported construction cones on US Highway north of Shelley had been hit and were laying down and out of place. 

10:45 a.m.       Traffic Complaint – A caller on southbound I-15 at mile marker 101 reported a dark-colored brown hatchback SUV with a “smoked” license plate” driving very recklessly.  It had hit the rumble strips and tried to pass on the right shoulder.  They could no longer see the vehicle. 

2:42 p.m.         Traffic Complaint – A caller on US Highway 91 in Firth reported a white Ford 250 truck was weaving in and out of traffic and was speeding.  There were no plates on the truck. 

Apr. 11

11:14 a.m.       Accident – A vehicle driving along 1290 East, on the foothills east of Shelley, ran into a vinyl fence and destroyed it sometime during the night. 

11:49 a.m.       Maliciouiis Injury – An individual in the Firth River Bottoms reported a 201 white Ford F150 had its windows broken out during the night.  He said he was o mad and not in the right mind to report it when it occurred.  No further details were given. 

1:28 p.m.         Malicious Injury – A caller south of Firth called to report someone had slashed two of four tires on their camping trailer sometime during the night. 

2:53 p.m.         Disturbing the Peace – A woman south of Firth reported a certain man came to her property and yelled at her.  The subject was no longer there.  He left in a black 4-door pickup with tinted windows and was headed north. 

Apr. 12

9:22 a.m.         Animal Complaint – Found – A caller west of Shelley reported a stray Husky ITA, wearing a black collar and name tag was in their yard.  They were concerned about getting too close to it to read the tag. 

9:45 a.m.         Animal Complaint – A caller west of Shelley reported a rooster in the canal.  They did not know who owned the rooster. 

6:53 p.m.         Request Assistance – A caller from the Woodville townsite reported they were a rental scam victim.  No further details were given.

11:01 p.m.       Grand Theft – A caller from the Basalt townsite, requested a deputy as her 18-year son was not listening to her and was disobeying rules.  He was currently in the backyard.   (Editor’s note – not sure how this arises to grand theft as no further details were given.)

Apr. 13

9:06 a.m.         A person northwest of Shelley requested a deputy be present for a controlled burn. 

9:16 a.m.         Animal Complaint – A caller reported a long-haired, tan dog, who appeared to be injured, was lying alongside the northbound lane of I-15 at mile marker 106. 

9:34 p.m.         Abandoned Vehicle – An individual in the Basalt townsite reported a white Chevy Custom Delux had been parked on his property for months.  He would like to speak to a deputy about it.   

1:27 p.m.         Animal Complaint – A caller in Woodville reported they let their neighbor’s white Appaloosa horse out during a fire.  It had no halter.  They don’t know which way it ran.

1:43 p.m.         Residential Burglary – A caller north of Firth reported someone entered their home earlier in the morning and stole 10 or 11 guns and a bulletproof vest.  They came home and found the door wide open. 

5:09 p.m.         Fraud – An individual near Goshen reported someone has been blackmailing his wife over the phone, to whom she has been paying.  The suspect has been sending some video messages as well.  Unknown for what. 

6:23 p.m.         Civil Standby – An individual northwest of Shelley requested a civil standby while getting some belongings out of her house.  The caller said she has a court order allowing her to get her items from the home. 

10:13 p.m.       Animal Complaint – A caller from Basalt reported missing an Aussie Lab Mix named Bear.  It has a collar with a tag. 

Apr. 14

7:43 a.m.         Abandoned vehicle – “Daughter ran out of gas between Blackfoot and Firth.  Unknown where she is at.  Wife was going to go get them and take them to school.  Sil 2003 old Alero.   RP will get it after work this evening.”   

7:48 a.m.         Grand Theft – A caller from Basalt reported that during the night, someone stole a blue Honda Rancher 420 4-wheeler, a min-tan Coleman motorized trail-bike, and a blue Yamaha dirt bike from their property. 

9:43 a.m.         Grand Theft – A caller from Firth reported that someone stole a black mini KN100 mini MC during the night. 

8:18 p.m.         Animal Complaint = An individual east of Shelley reported 3 black and white cows with five brown and white calves loose alongside 1300 North.  It is unknown who owns the cattle. 

Apr. 15

3:21 p.m.         Request Assistance – A caller from Woodville reported someone accessed her computer, which has personal information on it.  She would like to file a report. 

5:05 p.m.         Request Assistance – A caller from the Basalt townsite stated her 18-year-old son was disrespectful and swearing at her.  She would like a deputy to speak to him.

Apr. 16

11:34 p.m.       An individual east of Shelley requested extra patrol at his shop.  He noticed vehicles had been pulling in and out of its parking area the past few nights.  He is worried someone might try stealing items. 

Apr. 17

10:03 a.m.       Animal Complaint – A caller from Woodville reported five horses and goats with nothing to eat on a property near them.  Deputies investigated and concluded it was unfounded. 

11:22 a.m.       Residential Burglary – A caller west of Shelley reported she left her garage door open as it wouldn’t close.  While gone, someone came inside and stole a Honda motorbike.  They located the bike in a field.  She said her neighbor might have a recording of the event. 

2:45 p.m.         Animal Complaint – An individual west of Shelley reported a 3-legged Boarder Collie was detained and would like it to be picked up. 

6:40 p.m.         Illegal Dumping – An individual southwest of Shelley reported some had dumped an old refrigerator across from their residence on a berm between the canal and the road.  It had glass shelving, which was broken all over the road when dumped. 

8:30 p.m.         Disturbing the Peace – An individual in Basalt reported their neighbors were playing their music too loud  They want a deputy to speak to them and want to sign a citation as well. 

Apr. 18

4:20 p.m.         Civil Complaint – An individual northwest of Shelley reported a 2013 Grey Volkswagon Jetta was taken.  No additional information was given.   

5:48 p.m.         Shelley PD requested a K=9 unit. 

Apr. 19

6:44 a.m.         Suspicious Circumstance = An individual called to report that while he was dirt biking in the lavas off of Lava Road, he came upon several subjects who were camping in the area.  He said there were several vehicles with tires missing and on blocks.  He said as he came toward them, they started to walk away quickly.  He said he got a “bad vibe” and decided to leave the area.  He would like to talk to a deputy.  

8:23 a.m.         Grand Theft – An individual northwest of Woodville reported that someone took his 16-foot trailer from his backyard last night.  The suspect(s) was unknown.  He believes he heard them leaving with the trailer around 2 a.m. 

9:39 a.m.         County Ordinance Violation – A caller in the Firth River Bottoms reported a white pickup and camper had been parked at the same location for approximately a week.  However, the ordinance allows only 3 days in one location.  He said he had not seen anyone at the site. 

12:35 p.m.       Animal Complaint – An individual southwest of Shelley reported he detained two black and white Huskies.  They both have collars.  He would like to meet with a deputy. 

4:52 p.m.         Civil Standby – A deputy was requested for a civil standby at the Basalt townsite during a move-out order.  

8:10 p.m.         Traffic Complaint – A caller reported two large trucks in the southbound lane of I-15 at Exit 108 were both talking on their phones and brake checking each other. 

Apr. 20

10:38 a.m.       Animal Complaint – A caller in Firth reported a stray black Lab Cross was on the loose.  

6:03 p.m.         Harassment – An adult employee at a Firth business reported she had received a sexually harassing note from a customer.  The male then sat in his vehicle for 30 minutes.

Apr. 21

12:02 a.m.       Animal Complaint – A caller from the Basalt townsite reported their neighbor’s dog was barking. 

1:57 p.m.         Civil Complaint – An individual northwest of  Shelley reported her son took her vehicle with her permission.  He then allowed it to be borrowed by a girl.  It is unknown where it is now.  She would like to meet with a deputy. 

7:13 p.m.         Suspicious Circumstance – A caller reported a male with a machete was on foot near Hard Times in Firth.  Another male was on a bike.  They believe both men are together as they were having a conversation, and the male with the machete was yelling at the other male.  They were last seen heading toward the trailer court. 

7:23 p.m.         Battery – A caller from Firth reported a male suspect had battered her uncle approximately 20 minutes ago.  The suspect knocked her uncle unconscious, but he refused medical attention.  The suspect left on foot toward the river bottoms.  He is about 6-foot tall, had a goatee, and was wearing a white T-shirt and a baseball cap.  8:56 p.m.         Suspicious Circumstance – An individual requested deputies check on a male that had been going through homes under construction.  The caller believed he might be intoxicated or under the influence of something.  He got into a dark-colored Chevy 4-door car with a female drive about 10 minutes ago.  They are now parked down by the dam.  It appears they were walking through a field.
