Shelley competes against 17 schools at Rigby Invitational

RIGBY — The Shelley Russets competed at the Rigby Invitational with hundreds of athletes from West Yellowstone to Preston.  The Invitational was held April 9 and 10.  

Shelley athletes Ryker Clinger, Treyce Jensen, Brayden Johnson, and Jace Thatcher ran the 4×200-meter relay together.  They practiced hard to compete in this event, and it paid off.  They placed first with a time of 1:32.44.

“These boys definitely work well together. They practice hard, and today it worked in their favor,” says Lori Johnson, mother to Brayden Johnson.

The boy’s 4×100 relay, which consists of Ryker Clinger, Treyce Jensen, Zaine Dixon, and Brayden Johnson, also brought home a third-place medal, with a time of 0:45.29.

Ryker Clinger and Brayden Johnson qualified in the 100-meter race. Clinger placed seventh, with a time of 12.08, and Johnson walked away with his third medal of the day, placing third, with 11.82. 

In the 200-meter race, the top eight made it to the finals.  Three of those finalists were Shelley Russets, Jace Thatcher, Ryker Clinger, and Brayden Johnson.   All three ran a very tight race, with Clinger taking third at 25.12 (which earned him three metals from the event), Johnson placings fifth at 25.41, and Thatcher placing sixth, with a time of 25.48.

Jace Thatcher brought home another win for Shelley by placing third in the 400-meter, with a personal best time of 51.24.

Reese Callahan had another solid week where she qualified for finals in the 100-meter hurdles, placing fifth with a time of 17.42.

Tessa Smith medaled in Shot Put when she placed second with a distance of 33-06.00. Smith also placed fifth in the discus with a personal best distance of 87-01.

Shelley’s Freshman had a good showing, as this was also a Freshman qualifier meet. In the boy’s 100-meter race, Luke Wray placed fourth, with a time of 12.46, and Cole Fryar placed sixth, at 12.64.

Savannah Ivins placed fourth in the 400-meter race with a time of 1:07.83. In the 110-meter hurdles, Jacob Harlow placed fifth, with a time of 21.38, and Kaden Jensen placed sixth, his personal best time, at 22.22. Morgynn Cline took fourth in shot sut with a distance of 18-05.00,  her personal best.
