Madison Lempka wins State Championship in the high jump
EAGLE –- Shelley Russet Madison Lempka brought home a gold medal, while four other Russets brought home bronze medals from the 2021 State Track and Field Championships held on May 21 and May 22 at Eagle High School.
Lempka, a senior at Shelley High School, walked away as champion when she jumped 5’4†in the High Jump event. Lempka is headed to BYU to compete at the college level and to further her education.
“This is what I have been working for. I have worked hard the last 4 years. To become a State Champion was a dream come true and to be able to continue what I love at the college level is icing on the cake,†Lempka said.
Jace Thatcher, a senior at Shelley High School, walked away with a bronze medal in the 400-meter race. He had a time of 50.36 seconds.
Thatcher, Ryker Clinger, Treyce Jensen, and Brayden Johnson placed third in the 4×200 meter race with a time of 1:32.17.
“To finish off high school, placing third at State was an amazing experience. I am going to miss my teammates and this sport. I loved competing as a Shelley Russet. It’s very bittersweet,†Johnson said.
Tessa Smith competed against some tough competition and placed 8th in Shot Put with a distance of 33’1â€.
