Lady Russets lose heartbreaker at Volleyball District Tournament

IDAHO FALLS – Shelley High’s Girl Volleyball met up with the Skyline Grizzlies yesterday afternoon in a volleyball match that came down to the end with Skyline advancing in the District Tournament.

Shelley Lady Russet met up with the Skyline Grizzlies in the 4A High Country District playoffs at Bonneville High School on October 21.   Shelley took the 1st and 4th matches, while Skyline took the second, third, and fifth.

Shelley’s front line stood firm with blocks and kills throughout the match, but personal errors and a relentless Skyline front line were too much for the Russets to overcome.  The loss ended the season for the Lady Russets.

After the game, a teary-eyed Coach Savannah Leckington reflected on the season by saying, “I think the last few years, we have kind of played as the underdog, and that’s kind of been our story.  This year, we had an incredible group of girls.  We definitely had the talent, depth, and experience, but what do you say in the end?  I just think we beat ourselves. “

The Russets ended the season with an overall 14-15 record.  Skyline Grizzlies (13-23-2) went on to play the Blackfoot Broncos, winning 3-2.  However, later in the evening, they lost 0-3 to the Bonneville Bees.
