Cougar Boys bring down the house in their final home game

FIRTH – Cougars started cold but left the crowd in cheers as they beat North Fremont following their Senior Night celebration Friday Night.

The Firth Cougars (11-7, 3-3 Conference) came into last night’s game after suffering two devastating conference losses in the past week, one of them to the North Fremont Huskies (15-1, 5-0 Conference). So, a win for the Cougars was critical. 

Before the game, the Cougars honored Sam Park, Angel Arriaga, Cooper Leslie, Austin Jacobsen, Bridger Holley, and Kamren Longhurst as part of Senior Night.

The game opened with North Fremont fired up. They scored 11 straight points against a scoreless Cougar team, who, for the most part, looked like a deer on Highway 91 at midnight.   At the end of the first quarter, Huskies were 14, Firth 2.  

But, after a huddle with Firth Coach Scott Adams, a much different team returned to the floor. The Cougars scored 13 unanswered points in the second quarter, tying the game. At the end of the half, Huskies were 19 and Firth 17. 

The Cougars continued to pour it on in the third quarter with 15 points to Huskies’ 6 points. The Cougars retooled their defense, leaving the Huskies to outside shots with very few rebounds. Meanwhile, they effectively got the ball inside for points and made several good 3 point shots. 

In the end, their game plan was too challenging for the Huskies, who lost the game 49 to 42. Firth fans rushed to the floor to congratulate their Cougar basket team on a phenomenal home-game finish as the clock ran to zero.

On Saturday night, February 5, the Cougars traveled to Salmon, handily beating the Savages 62 to 43. The Cougars are now 5 to 3 in conference play. They play their final regular-season game at West Jefferson on February 11, at 7:30 p.m.
