Shelley and Firth residents invited to give blood on Wednesday
EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is a news release.
SHELLEY — Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. They don’t wear capes or special suits, and their badge of honor is the bandage that shows they gave the gift of life.
The Shelley and Firth communities are invited to become hometown heroes and answer the call of patients in need by donating blood on May 12, 2021, from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Shelley South Stake Center, 675 S. Milton in Shelley.
“The past couple of years we have had at least six successful blood drives in the Shelley and Firth communities,†said Shelley resident and event organizer Lanette Bolander. “It’s amazing to see the number of people that turn out to support the Red Cross in its effort.â€
Donating blood is one of the simplest things a person can do to help save a patient’s life. For the hour it takes to give blood, there could be a whole community of people thankful for another birthday given to their loved one.
“This upcoming blood drive is another opportunity for us to volunteer our service in support of this great cause,†Bolander said. “The Red Cross can’t succeed without us. Every donor is appreciated!â€
To make an appointment, please visit redcrossblood.org, sponsor code SISS or call 1 800-REDCROSS.
A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
