Lady Russets win narrowly in home opener
SHELLEY – Shelley girls basketball played their first home game last night against the Teton Timberwolves in a game that went from a blowout to almost a loss.
Last night when the lady Russets walked into the cellar, they had played two weeks of basketball away from home. With a 3-2 record, they had some great successes and some tough losses. One loss occurred last Tuesday night against conference opponent Blackfoot. They lost to the Broncos 64 to 32. So, they had something to prove last night in front of a home crowd.
The Lady Russets started the game with a bang, scoring 23 points in the first quarter while holding the Timberwolves to a paltry 7 points. But then, the Russets hit a drought, scoring only 9 points in the second quarter and 7 points in the third quarter.
Shelley scored 10 points in the fourth quarter, but Teton scored 19. With less than a minute in the game, the Timberwolves had come within two points of the Russets. The Lady Russets were fouled and had free throws to put the game away. But, they all failed. With one second on the clock, Teton Timberwolve Tatum Streit put up a short shot that bounced off the rim, giving Shelley a 48 – 46 win over Teton.
Shelley girls next play Minico at home this Saturday, December 4 at 7:30 p.m.
