REDS sweep District Dance Championship

RIGBY:  Shelley High School’s REDS dance team took first in each dance category to sweep the 4A District Championships Saturday, January 29, at Rigby High School.

Precision and excellence have become a trademark for REDS’ dance team over the past several years, and Saturday’s district performances proved that once again.  The REDS walked away with first place in all four categories—Prop, military, hip-hop, and dance.

Not only did the team excel but the team’s solo dancers did as well.   Shelley Russet Ashlynn Peebles took 1st, Zoey Poulsen took 2nd, Emma Neild took 3rd, and Hadlie Hoskin-Smith took 4th place in their individual dance performance.

‘’We have such an awesome team,†Coach Kelli Hobbs said.  “But there is going to be stiff competition at State.  “Both Columbia and Preston [high schools] are good.â€

Last year at State, Shelley took 3rd place overall after placing 2nd or 3rd in the four different dance categories.  Columbia High School, in Nampa, took first place, followed by Preston High School, which took second. Both schools also placed in each dance category.

Hobbs is in her 10th year as head coach of the REDS Dance Team.  She has taken them to State every year since becoming their coach.  During that time, the team took State three times in a row.  They might have repeated a fourth time in 2020 but were denied when Covid-19 canceled the event a week before it was to occur.

The State High School Dance Championship will be held Friday, February 11 at the Idaho Center, in Nampa, Idaho.
