Firth Student brings love and good cheer on Valentine’s Day
FIRTH – A whole lot of love was being shown at Firth High School this morning, February 14, as each female student received a red rose, and each boy student got a candy bar from one student, Hannah Christensen.
Hannah Christensen is a senior at Firth High School. She is also a member and State Executive Officer for the Family Career and Community Leaders of America FCCLA Chapter, a program operated within the school.
As part of FCCLA, a student must complete a Star Event service project for community needs. Kellie Parks, a teacher at Firth High School, is the advisor over the chapter.
“Hannah has been involved in the program through high school,†Firth High School Teacher and Advisor Kellie Parks said. “The event this morning was in coordination with Hannah’s Star Event service project in the community.â€
As part of her project, Hannah sold at Christmas Funky Socks a colorful array of silly-printed stockings for $15 a pack to students to wear or to give as a gift. Hannah sold 38 packs in person and seven bags online, of which she earned $9 per pack. She purchased the roses and candy for today’s event using the proceeds from that sale. Sam’s Club helped Hannah by providing a $50 gift card for the flowers.
“My main project this year is ‘Growing Outside the Pot,†Hannah Christensen said. “This being my senior year, I just wanted to find some confidence by loving all of me. I found I can love myself through serving others. I wanted others to feel loved on Valentine’s Day, so it gave me the idea to give flowers and candy to everyone, so they know they are loved.â€
And Hannah did make everyone feel loved today with the roses and candy she purchased. There was nothing but smiles throughout the school as her friends distributed her gifts to every student and teacher.
